Iona Batchelder, cellist, is an avid chamber, orchestral and solo young artist. As a soloist, Ms. Batchelder is a prizewinner of YoungArts, the Colburn School of Performing Arts Concerto Competition, the Torrance Symphony Young Artists Concerto Competition, and the Los Angeles Violoncello Society Scholarship Awards. At the age of fifteen she performed on a broadcast of LACMA Live's concert series as the soloist in Dvorak's Cello Concerto with the Colburn Youth Orchestra. The following year, she was a soloist again with the same orchestra, performing Schumann's Cello Concerto in Los Angeles's Zipper Hall. 

Ms. Batchelder is currently a member of Unison Quartet, a quartet coached by Roger Tapping and Joel Smirnoff which was selected to participate in the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar this past spring. In 2014, Ms. Batchelder won third prize in the junior division of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition as a member of Quartet Firenze, becoming the first chamber group from California to medal in the junior division. In 2010, she performed at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall as a member of a piano quintet in Junior Chamber Music. She has also performed several times on the Sundays Live radio broadcast program at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. 

In the fall of 2016, Ms. Batchelder was selected to be one of the principal cellists of the Juilliard Orchestra, becoming one of the only freshmen ever to win a principal position. Ms. Batchelder has been Assistant Principal Cellist of the American Youth Symphony, Principal Cellist of the Colburn Youth Orchestra, and a member of the Young Artists’ Symphony Orchestra. 

Ms. Batchelder has attended Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival and the Aspen Music Festival. In addition, she has played solo works and chamber music works in masterclasses for artists including Ralph Kirshbaum, Joel Krosnick, Robert McDonald, Gil Kalish, Ronald Copes, Astrid Schween, Frans Helmerson, Donald and Vivian Weilerstein, Hans Jensen, Alan Stepansky, Martin Beaver, Martin Chalifour, and Roland Vamos. Ms. Batchelder is in her fourth year of Bachelor of Music degree studies at the Juilliard School under the tutelage of Darrett Adkins and currently plays on a 1740 Carlo Antonio Testore cello on gracious loan from David and Krystyna Newman.
